XCP-ng

$ BudgetFree · Last reviewed July 2026

XCP-ng is an open-source Xen-based hypervisor platform, created in 2018 as the community fork of Citrix XenServer and led by the French company Vates. It is managed with the companion Xen Orchestra stack, which adds a web UI, backups, pool clustering, and live migration on top of the hypervisor. It suits homelabs and cost-conscious organizations that want a fully open virtualization stack with an upgrade path to professional support. The platform is free under GPLv2; Vates sells tiered pro-support subscriptions covering both XCP-ng and Xen Orchestra.
