$ BudgetFree · Last reviewed May 2026

Crossplane is an open-source platform that extends Kubernetes to provision and manage cloud infrastructure through Kubernetes APIs and custom resource definitions. It targets platform teams building internal cloud platforms and uses a declarative, control-plane approach defined in YAML. As a CNCF project it is free and open-source, self-hostable on Kubernetes, with a managed commercial option available through Upbound. It supports multi-cloud provisioning. As an open-source tool it carries no vendor compliance certifications.
